Nikos Oikonomidis
"(...) Nikos Oikonomidis comes to add yet another link to the long chain of music tradition in the Aegean archipelago, with a series of "new" nisiotika songs which step solidly in the traditional footprints.
A sound which is new but simultaneously familiar, like a new member of an large old family, like liturgy and a summer paneyiri at some old white island country church.
Listen to his songs, clean and modest, without irrelevant vocal acrobatics. Listen to his laouto, rhythmic and unadorned, supportive and undistracting. And, above all, listen to the unique bowing and to the passion that pours from his violin (...)."

The independent recording company "Oikonomidis Music" consists of a contemporary channel for the recording of Greek traditional music. It was founded in 2001 by Nikos Oikonomidis with knowledge of and love for Greek music.
Our goals are the researching, recording and dissemination of the rich musical material that still remains alive in every corner of Greece, the presentation of the work of old and new instrumentalists, as well as that of contemporary musical groups that live and work by drawing inspiration, with respect, from traditional ways.
During this time of hyper-selling and hyper-consumption of musically ‘manufactured' items, "Oikonomidis Music" offers music lovers a contemporary, creative acoustical experience of traditional music. |

They are the guardians and angels of a unique culture which combines, quite miraculously, the fixed essence of the tradition with the freedom of improvisation.
Nikos Oikonomidis comes from Skinoussa, bathed in the cool breezes of the Aegean and the celestial melodies that wander exotically from wave to wave, from rock to rock, and from house to house, touching the souls and preserving the beauty of the natural environment. Oikonomidis, with his heritage, demonstrates in his practice that the folk song is alive, that it is being renewed, and that it expresses the youth, who haven't yet submitted to the bad taste and all the homogenization of our times (...)" |
